Pakistan beat Guyana cricket team in warm-up match

Jul 12, 2013

Pakistan beat Guyana cricket team by 7 runs in a warm-up match at Georgetown on Thursday night.

Pakistanis who made 246 for 9, opener Ahmed Shehzad struck a patient half-century - a feat that was later repeated by Guyana’s middle order batsman Narsingh Deonarine whose 55 was not enough, as Saeed Ajmal ripped through the Guyanese middle and lower order batting lineup to take 5 for 37 and bowl out the home team for 239 from 49.4 over’s.

Winning the toss and asking their opponents to take first strike in slightly overcast conditions, Guyana saw the Pakistanis reach 12 without loss from 3 overs, before rain stopped play at 09:19hrs, with Nasir Jamshed on 5 and Shehzad 1.

When play resumed, Jamshed eased a fiery looking Keon Joseph past mid-on for the first boundary of the day, which was followed by boundaries from both Shehzad and Jamshed off Paul Wintz, while two fours from Shehzad off Joseph pushed the visitors to 47 without loss off the first 10 overs.

After posting the 50 from 10.2 overs and seeing Shehzad pull a short delivery from Christopher Barnwell through the vacant midwicket boundary for 4, Pakistan lost their first wicket, that of Jamshed who was bowled by Veerasammy Permaul for 19 at 62 for 1 in the 14th over.

Six overs later and the dangerous Mohammed Hafeez (11) struck one back to his soon-to-be Amazon Warriors teammate Permaul, who accepted the offer low to his right, to leave Pakistan on 86 for 2, with Shehzad on 47 and being joined by his skipper Misbah-ul-Haq.

Together they took the score to 116 for 2, with Shehzad realising his 50 from 58 balls with six fours, before he was smartly stumped by Anthony Bramble off Devendra Bishoo for his 68 which took him 79 deliveries to accumulate and was decorated with nine fours.

Misbah was next to go, lbw to Steven Jacobs for 22 and when Umar Akmal (9) and Asad Shafiq (22) were both sent back by a dangerous-looking Bishoo who ended with 3 for 39, Pakistan were 160 for 6, with Shahid Afridi being joined Wahab Riaz.
